That you did not have to edit the client is because you were logging in using a Steam created WG account. The fact that you have Steam achievements also proves that your account is a Steam created account, not an account created outside of Steam. The process you have provided is for creating a set of WG account login credentials using the WG account that is created for you by Steam and cannot be used to connect an existing WG account to a Steam account. I could previously log in to WoWS on Steam only by editing the game files, and I have never been able to use Steam features like achievements or my Steam wallet or buying ships in the Steam store, because my WG account is not linked to any Steam account. For example my WG account predates WoWS on Steam, it predates WoWS entirely. You are correct that WG login credentials can be used to log in to WoWS via Steam without editing the game files as long as those credentials are for an account that is already associated with a Steam account but WG accounts that were not created by Steam cannot be linked to Steam. But I will concede that I must clarify when I say WG account I mean an account created by WG, via or through the WGC launcher or whatever other methods existed to create a WG login before WoWS was also available on Steam.
This is the complete opposite of proof that you are using a WG account. Linked email through game and it was done, WG account was connected. Still have steam rewards also on my account and i keep recieving those, but yet not able to play with same account anymore through steam. With modified login to the game they did not work. I didnt modify game files, i logged in through steam game client.
